cooking

I'm shifting my energy from makeup to being healthy; exercising and eating well. Real Simple has some excellent suggestions for alternative cooking with one's rice cooker; I'm going to try the risotto tomorrow.

These recipes look scrumptious too:
Barley Risotto with Asparagas
Corn Risotto
Sweet Pea Risotto

3Q (thank you) Kuri for digging up this wonderful article on making things w/ rice cooker. I will definitely give it a try some time.

btw, is recipe really a part of "materialismKuri" topic? seems to belong to the general blog site better..

^_^

You have a point. I'll keep my cooking stuff on the general blog from now on.

Btw, the rice cooker risotto was not a success :P I think the porridge setting is too low; the risotto turned out as porrige, haha. Hope the article helps though! I should just try making porridge, hee. I love rice porridge.

I really like porridge as well, especially since CA summers are so hot, usually don't have much appetite if I get home early from work...

maybe time for another attempt at slimming down? hehee.... ^_^

I read your more recent comment on fitness and trying to be healthy, girl, you live in JP, you already get enough exercise as it is... (I recall the 4 months of MITJP where I lost nearly 15 lbs by not putting in any effort at all!)..

Sorry for the late reply! Kinda got bogged down with studying and work and all.

Porridge is yummy. I have to learn to cook it. My mom gave me some pointers but as usual I forgot. Heh. Dude, you can't complain about the heat in CA. I live in Tokyo, land of very bad humidity (although nothing compared to southeast Asia, haha).

I'm healthy, but my waist is just getting more and more stout, which I find a little disturbing :P The walking doesn't put much of a dent in it either. Going to check out the hip hop class on Sunday!

So the Autumn has begin and I remember the way my mother make Sweet Pea Risotto...This is the excerpt she earlier send me via mail.....Heat the butter and oil together in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until translucent, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the rice and stir to coat in the oil and butter. Pour in the wine, then stir until all the liquid is absorbed. Reduce heat to low. Add 1 cup of the broth and cook until absorbed, stirring occasionally. Add the remaining broth, 1/2 cup at a time, waiting until each portion of broth is absorbed before adding the next. Continue this process until the rice is cooked al dente, about 40 minutes. Stir in the Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Puree 2 cups of the peas in a blender or food processor. Just before serving, stir in the pea puree until fully incorporated, thenfold in the remaining whole peas. and here is it ready....to serve....
I doesn't know of the rest of the ones but this is the one which I know...Anyway thanks for such great blogs...I definately go through the other ones in future for sure.....

Thanks for the delicious-sounding recipe! The risotto part is pretty much the same instructions my friend gave me, but the sweet pea portion is new to me. I will have to try that soon! I love peas. I'm also glad that you're enjoying the blog; it's good to know that I have readers.
